Each time we drop by a furniture or home accessories shop, we usually just look around, eye and buy pieces that we like, and then head for the door.

With the goal of making this activity a more enjoyable experience, Joseph Tay, Stephanie Coyiuto-Tay, and Dana Uy thought—Why not have a café + bar inside their furniture store? This way, the space will be an “experiential showroom.” In other words, it will not only give their guests a chance to admire the beauty of their designer pieces, it will also give visitors a feel of the Design Story experience.

Design Story
Thru Three Squares cafe and bar, guests have a chance to have a feel of the Design Story experience.

The trio have been in the furniture business for over a decade. Having finally found the perfect spot for their concept, they opened a showroom for their furniture company Design Story at the very hip The Alley in Karrivin Plaza, Makati. Taking over the spot previously occupied by the art space Bellas Artes, they also put up a design-inspired café + bar in the middle of the showroom which they call Three Squares. It serves an array of comfort food and hot and cold beverages.

The owners wanted the vibe of the showroom to be “bright, charming, and extremely chill,” says Dana. Upon making your way up the stairs to the second floor landing, you’ll be greeted by the iconic flowerpot pendant lights by Verner Panton, one of the most influential 20th-century furniture and interior designers.

A big portion of the 350-square meter area of the gallery-style enclave showcases carefully curated designer furniture, light fixtures, and home accessories from four designer brands: Danish brands Hay, &Tradition and Verpan, and the “East-meets-West” Japanese brand Stellar Works.

Dana says the showroom is inspired by her and Stephanie’s museum trips abroad.
