Contemporary problems need innovative and sustainable solutions. Like mobility, which became a big issue for many commuters especially during the pandemic. This inspired the bike and e-scooter sharing company Moovr PH to launch their service in Bonifacio Global City in 2020.
If you haven’t heard it yet, the service is now also available in BGC neighbor Makati, the metro’s central business district. The daytime population of the city could reach up to a million people. Hence the importance of an alternative means of transportation—so one could go around and just breeze through traffic.
To use this bike and e-scooter sharing facility, all you need is a smartphone. Simply download the Moovr app for free from the App Store or Google Play Store and create an account. Once your profile is activated, you could find your ride by going to the nearest Moovr Hub. Helmets are not required but are encouraged for personal safety.
Upon reaching the Moovr Hub, select a vehicle and unlock it by scanning the QR code. Now you can start riding.
Vehicles can be rented for a maximum of 24 hours and e-scooters must be returned if the battery is already at less than 15 percent. Users should drive only in designated lanes and obey traffic rules. The Moovr app will direct the user to the nearest designated parking spot closest to his destination. Once the ride is complete, you can just simply park and lock the bike or scooter in the Moovr Hub and end the ride in your app.
Bike rate is P20 for every 15 minutes (or P80 an hour) and an e-scooter can be rented at P50 for every 20 mins. Users will have a Moovr e-wallet that they can easily top up.
Currently, the bike and e-scooter sharing company has 55 manual pedal bicycles distributed in its 11 hubs located all over Makati City. Moovr founder and CEO Anna Moncupa says they will be releasing e-scooters soon. All vehicles are equipped with a GPS system that will notify the company in case of theft or accidents.
According to Shiella Aguilar, Estate Development Manager of Makati Estate, Ayala Land, with the completion of more pedestrian underpasses around the Makati CBD, they can now describe the city as a 15-minute city—where Makatizens’ place of resident, work and venues for leisure are all accessible within a 15-minute bike or e-scooter ride.
