If Hermes designed a phone, it might look like this

Oppo, one of the biggest smart phone brands in the world, recently launched its latest in the Philippines: the new Oppo Reno8 T. It is an ultra slim phone that should score extra style points with those who have a taste for designer everything: it’s back boasts the texture of premium leather and comes in a shade close to one famously associated with luxury brand Hermes—Sunset Orange, the China-born brand calls it.

To hear the local Oppo execs talk about this new mid-range model at the pre-sunset launch last week, it seems the Oppo Reno8 T is really being marketed more as an influencer slash content creator’s phone, a chic accessory, a very good camera, and a device to best enjoy music, movies and games, more than a tool for verbal or written human exchanges. Which is most likely the reason why influential actress-singer-endorser Nadine Ilustre was picked as the Philippine ambassador—she represents the ideal Reno8 T user as well as the creator who aspires to her lifestyle, standards, clout and creativity.

At the product launch at Enderun Tent, one of Oppo’s local executives spoke about the phone’s features.

Apart from its fashionable shape and weight—the Sunset Orange model weighs about 183 g and has a thickness of 7.85mm; the Midnight Black variant only has a 7.80mm thickness and weighs about 180 g—here are the other outstanding features of the Reno8 T which was described by Joanarc Sales, Oppo Philippines’ Head of CRM and Public Relations, as “a breakthrough product that promises an extraordinary, all-round smartphone experience.”

-It is the first Reno series phone equipped with a 100MP Portrait Camera which allows the owner to “take high-quality portraits with more clarity and detail while enjoying the freedom to crop and enlarge photos to reimagine their images.”

-It has a Microlens feature that “enables users to capture surprising visual images usually hidden in plain sight through 40-times magnification, offering unprecedented access to microscopic photography capabilities.” We don’t know exactly how it will serve the ordinary content creator unless his usual topics are in the field of science and microscopic images help get his message across. Otherwise, it’s just a fun, novel feature.

-More enhancement, prettifying, and fix-it features to produce images that are instant Instagram scroll-stoppers, like the AI Portrait Super Resolution, the Bokeh Flare Portrait, a Selfie HDR, AI Portrait Retouching, and Flash Snapshot. Essentially, these promise to help your feed look like you’re farming out your photographic posts to a pro.

-A cool notification feature is the upgraded Orbit Light that users can personalize via a choice of eight different colors. Works best for when you’re in a meeting and don’t want to bother workmates with the sound of your incoming messages. The softly blinking light will let you know.

-Will be 100 percent charged in an hour and 7 minutes, thanks to its high-capacity 5000mAh battery and 33W SUPERVOOCTM charging technology.

The Oppo Reno8 T is now available for pre-orders and retails for Php18,999.
