Casio Computer Co., Ltd. is commemorating its 50th anniversary with the release of the TRN-50, a limited-edition reimagining of the Casiotron QW02, the world's first digital watch with an automatic calendar function.
Originally launched in 1974, the Casiotron broke new ground, offering a digital wristwatch inspired by the idea that "watches simply add up seconds." This revolutionary timepiece leveraged Casio's expertise in digital technology, previously used in their calculators, to create the concept of a fully automatic wristwatch.
The Casiotron displayed not only the time, but also the correct date and day of the week, automatically adjusting for different month lengths. This innovative feature, except for leap years, represented a significant leap forward in wristwatch functionality.
The new TRN-50 stays true to the spirit of the original Casiotron while incorporating modern advancements. This limited-edition watch, restricted to only 4,000 units worldwide, recreates the iconic Casiotron design while integrating cutting-edge features such solar charging and Bluetooth connection to smartphones enabling automatic time zone updates and other convenient features.
The TRN-50 faithfully reproduces the original design, including its size, sophisticated textures, dark blue face, and the classic Casiotron logo. This modern tribute also boasts a highly readable LCD display and a durable construction, making it both stylish and practical.
