There’s plenty of reasons to get excited over the latest Philippines-inspired watch from Seiko. It’s the third installment in the line of limited edition Prospex timepieces that celebrates a local icon—following the Tubbataha Reefs-inspired one launched in 2020, and the one with the happy, bright yellow face unleashed in 2021, a playful nod to the world-renowned Philippine sunrise.

This latest design seems the best-looking of all three. Inspired by the magnificence of the Philippine Eagle, the watch seems to take on the popular bird’s quiet majesty. Design snobs will be happy that the inspiration is applied in a most subtle way, resulting in a very grownup, very sophisticated sports and adventure watch that’s both eye-catching and elegant.

Launching this October exclusively in the Philippines, the third Philippine Limited Edition Prospex watch is built for the outdoors just like the national bird it pays tribute to. It carries a 6R35 caliber and is equipped with a water resistance of up to 200 meters. The design has a striking two-tone rotating bezel and a textured dial, and it also features an automatic movement with manual winding capacity and approximately 70 hours power reserve.

Limited to only 1,000 pieces, this new limited edition is made even more desirable with the special packaging it comes in: a sturdy box that comes in a red that matches the watch’s face, bearing an eagle head etched in gold.

Apart from coming out with another great watch, the guys from Seiko are also happy to raise awareness about the state of the Philippine Eagle through this new product.

Through its partnership with the Philippine Eagle Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the endangered Philippine Eagle and the rainforest where it lives, Seiko has adopted a rescue Philippine Eagle in Davao and named it Eiko which means “flourishing or prosperous child”. (It’s also the last four letters of the legendary Japanese watch brand, of course.) Part of the proceeds of the sales from the 2022 Philippine Limited Edition Prospex watch will go to the foundation—for the shelter, care, and food of the adopted Philippine Eagle.

Apart from this, for every purchase of the watch, a tree will be planted in the Sierra Madre region under the buyer’s name. Through the Eco Matcher app, the owner can track the tree's progress as well as get introduced to information on the tree’s species, the exact location where it was planted, and details about its care, among others. The watch’s suggested retail price is P45,000.
