Blue Alliance Philippines, a non-government organization that co-manages marine protected areas (MPAs), and Fridays Puerto Galera, an eco-friendly resort, have joined forces to enhance marine conservation and strengthen programs safeguarding the marine ecosystems surrounding the resort.

The strategic alliance seeks to protect marine biodiversity, promote the improvement of local livelihoods, and foster sustainable tourism initiatives.

Fridays Puerto Galera is located inside the lagoons of the UNESCO-protected Muelle Bay in Puerto Galera. Muelle Bay is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is listed as one of the world's most beautiful bays and is considered a national heritage site.

As part of the collaboration, Fridays Puerto Galera conducted a seminar for its local resident employees and scuba diving instructors with Blue Alliance Philippines. The seminar tackled the safeguarding of marine ecosystems, promoting sustainable practices, and raising awareness in preserving marine life.

“This collaboration is a testament of our group’s dedication to environmental stewardship and community engagement,” said Fridays Hotel & Resorts chief operations officer Samantha Panlilio in a statement. “Fridays Puerto Galera is more than just a destination. It’s a beacon for the future of sustainable hospitality.”

Panlilio also said it will take the same path in the group's upcoming properties, Fridays Siargao and Fridays Boracay A Radisson Collection, which are set to open in 2025 and 2026 respectively.

"As we strive for exceptional guest experiences and steadfast environmental responsibility, we are already setting the tone for what guests both local and international can expect from the Fridays brand,” she said.

Fridays Puerto Galera is accessible through Berberabe Port in Batangas City, some 2 hours away from Metro Manila and another 30 minutes by boat to the island of Boquete, otherwise known as Paniquian Island.
